Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
Organizations do not plan to fail; they fail to plan!
and Control Plan Methodology
Quality management system (QMS) standards include direct and indirect references to APQP and Control Plans. Refer to the following documents:
- IATF 16949:2016, Page 28, Clause 8.1.1: Operational planning and control-supplemental
- ISO 9001:2015, Pages 4-6, Clause 6: Planning
- Applicable Customer-specific Requirements (CSR's)
APQP is a structured process of defining and establishing the product realization steps necessary to assure that the product satisfies the customer. The goal of APQP is to facilitate effective communication with everyone involved to assure that all required process steps are effective, efficient, and completed on time. Effective APQP and Control Plan development depends on top management's commitment to the effort required in achieving customer satisfaction.
Some of the benefits of APQP and Control Plans:
- Effective and efficient utilization of resources
- Enhanced customer satisfaction
- Early discovery of required product and process changes
- Quality products realized, at the lowest possible cost, delivered on time
Jan Roovers Associates, Inc. has trained hundreds of quality, design, and process engineers as well as employees in manufacturing and quality control in the application of APQP and the development of Control Plans. We encourage our course participants to bring their APQP and Control Plan issues to the course. Our willingness to incorporate and address these challenges has earned us very positive feedback from our clients.
Our most requested arrangement is the 1-day APQP and Control Plan introduction course combined with our 1.5-day FMEA and 0.5-day PPAP courses. These courses are geared (as much as reasonably possible) towards the specific needs and expectations of the participants. Small group discussions and customized (company-specific) exercises are used to help participants internalize, and immediately apply what has been taught.
